The Joy of Forgiveness vs. Strongholds of Bitterness

Posted: August 6, 2015 in God's Power Breaks Chains

“Our God, you bless everyone whose sins you forgive and wipe away. You bless them by saying, ‘You told me your sins, without trying to hide them, and now I forgive you.’ (Psalm 32:1-2)

How amazing is that? Right from scripture — doesn’t really even need a commentary or explanation. God gives us each a chance at FREE forgiveness, if we only come to him repentant and wiling to change. Wow…what if the Costco sample people were giving away forgiveness instead of free food tidbits.  Would there would be a mad rush of pushing crowds begging God to hear their simple pleas…or would they take a pass and rush towards stomach-filling options rather than Spirit-filling relief for the soul.

King David of ancient Israel, writer of many of the praise songs we call Psalms continues by explaining the weight of guilt under the conscience which was placed within us by God himself: “Before I confessed my sins, my bones felt limp, and I groaned all day long. Night and day your hand weighed heavily on me, and my strength was gone as in the summer heat.” (Ps. 32:3-4) So we can take away that an unprotected soul — without Holy Spirit’s protection — can make a person feel physically ill.

Logical answer: “So I confessed my sins and told them all to you. I said, ‘I’ll tell the Lord each one of my sins.’ Then you forgave me and took away my guilt.” (Ps. 32:5) So simple, yet so profound.
