John 4:14 is so central to Christ’s promises of eternal life for believers; today’s date serves as an important reminder to hold onto this verse as April unfolds.

How is joy to be obtained in this life? Isaiah, the prophet, gives the answer in Isaiah 12:3, “With great joy, you people will get water from the well of victory.” Where is victory then found? In salvation comes the joy.

Jesus promises in John 4:14, “but whosoever drinks the water I give will never thirst. Indeed the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” Fountains of living water flow freely from the throne of God to whomsoever will believe. We just need to supply the faith; God will supply the living water. Hosannah! Glory to God in the highest.     “Please spring up a well in me should be the cry of all believers today” There is joy in the river indeed. There is hope. There is life everlasting. “Words of wisdom are a stream that flows from a deep fountain.” (Proverbs 18:4)

On May 1, 2016, Holy Spirit added this 4:14 from 1 Thessalonians: “We believe that Jesus died and was raised to life. We also believe that when God brings Jesus back again, he will bring with him all who had faith in Jesus before they died.”

“Open the ancient gates, so that the glorious king may come in.” (Psalm 24:7) Doesn’t that just stir your soul? The idea that Jesus, glorified, will as promised return to earth from the same place that he left — Jerusalem, Israel. Those ancient gates that have remained shut until the Prince of Peace arrives, will once again be opened and used to glorify the Lord.

“Who is this glorious king? He is our Lord, a strong and mighty warrior.” (Psalm 24:6) Jesus came the first time as a meek, suffering servant savior — the lamb of God sent to take away the sins of the earth for all who believe. BUT — his 2nd appearance, which is oh so very close after 2,000 some years, will be as a conquering warrior, having the keys to death and Hades. God tells us ahead of time, through his chosen prophets, what the end of this age of grace will be like. We are very close. Choose to believe and join God’s mighty spirit-filled army of believers. The next psalm offers this promise: “You lead humble people to do what is right and to stay on your path.  In everything you do, you are kind and faithful to everyone who keeps our agreement with you. Be true to your name, LORD, by forgiving each one of my terrible sins. You will show the right path to all who worship you.” (Psalm 25: 9-12)

How close is your daily walk with the Lord who created you…who imagined you specifically from before the foundations of the earth? You were meant to live for such a time as this. You’re not an accident…an oops…a child carefully planned for by your parents…you were made by a Maker…God almighty.

Job 35: 9-10 claims that “In times of trouble, everyone begs the mighty God to have mercy. But after their Creator helps them through hard times, they forget about him.”

“If God took back the breath that he breathed into us, we humans would die and return to the soil. God created us all; he has no favorites, whether rich or poor.” (Job 34: 14-15 & 19)

So….on this Easter weekend, I would challenge you to recommit to following the Lord closely no matter what the circumstances or seasons of your life look like to the natural eye. God knows you personally and is waiting for you to follow his wisdom towards the narrow path that brings life through acceptance of his only Son’s sacrifice on the cross and resurrection to create the one and only bridge from God to man. There are no manmade ladders tall enough to reach towards your own salvation…just that one bridge offered by God. Accept his free offer of salvation today. Walk into your predetermined destiny partnering with God while there is still time.

This week in the Middle East, an unprecedented number of soldiers (340,000), tanks and airplanes from Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations are gathering in the very far north as a show of force against Syria, Iran and Russia. Turkey and NATO have their parts to play in God’s prophetic time clock. The Bible tells of a time for war and a time for piece in Solomon’s book of Ecclesiastes.  Who will put on the brakes? What nations will run full tilt ahead with machines of destruction and armed nuclear warheads to back their demands?

Psalms 9 contains a warning for “…those nations that forgot about you.” Man’s plans for war without Godly counsel is arrogant…destructive…and thereby ungodly…which is wicked. This verse  contains a clear warning of choices to be made and loyalties with “The wicked will go down to the world of the dead to be with those nations that forgot about you.” (Ps. 9:17) This continues in Ps. 10:13 with “The wicked don’t respect you. In their hearts they say, ‘God won’t punish us!’ ” Finally in Ps. 9:5 comes the ending: “You warn the nations and destroy evil people; you wipe out their names forever and ever. Our enemies are destroyed completely for all time. Their cities are torn down, and they will never be remembered again.”

God has a timetable for world events. He is not surprised, ever. He knows what countries and leaders plan “in secret.” Psalms 11:4 assures us believers that “The Lord is sitting in his sacred temple on his throne in heaven. He knows everything we do because he sees us all.”

All the books, learning, religious thought and choices presented to people come down to ONLY 2 CHOICES IN THE END: 1) God’s narrow path through his words contained in the Holy Bible which include faith in His only son, Jesus, for salvation, or 2) the broad path that leads to destruction which includes everything else.

Your adversary, the devil, does not want you to realize that all the seeming choices just narrow down to good vs. evil, belief vs. rebellion. It is so much more glamorous to think that YOU have found the wisdom of the ages in New Age, wiccan, shamanism, atheism, agnosticism, Christian Science, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc., etc. in an almost non-ending list.

How narrow minded you say? God, himself, said the way to life is narrow and many people miss it. God loves you. God loves the world. He provided a way to reconcile our naturally wicked hearts to himself: “God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die.” John 3:16. What if this verse corresponded to March (3rd month) 2016. What if time is really shortening for you to choose? Join me on the narrow path. I really want to spend eternity with you by my side!

IMG_0172If Holy Spirit graciously chose a verse to speak to you in the middle of the night, January 23rd, would you wake up and pull out your Bible to investigate? I Heard “John 14:1” clearly. Just that. Since God’s words are the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, He uses them to exhort or encourage us today as well. Their message is timeless. “The Lord told me to write down his message for his people, so that it would be there forever.” (Isaiah 30:8) I have been reading many prophetic pronouncements of judgement coming to America, which can up one’s fear factor. The idea of national betrayal, food shortages, martial law — the changing of that which has always been solidly assured by our U.S. Constitution and God’s spirit of patriotism — can bring the fear of uncertainty.

Here is what I read for John 14:1 (CEV version): Jesus said to his disciples, “Don’t be worried! Have faith in God and have faith in me.” Wow! How encouraging is that to those to faithfully follow Jesus unto salvation? Remember, I AM NOT giving you this verse for such a time as this, Holy Spirit chose it of all the verses available in 66 books. If you read further into verse 2, Jesus goes on to say, “There are many rooms in my Father’s house. I wouldn’t tell you this unless it was true.” Our God is real. Jesus is coming back for us. Holy Spirit is the restrainer against evil currently in place. You have been chosen from the foundation of the world to live in such a time as this. Buckle on the full armor of God as protection. Stay close to him. Ponder these words of the Old Testament prophet Isaiah: “The holy Lord God of Israel had told all of you, I will keep you safe if you turn back to me and calm down. I will make you strong if you quietly trust me.” (Isaiah 30:15)

Now — all is well. Because there was a first noel. Notice there is no 2nd or 3rd noel. The one and only advent, heralded to shepherds, considered a lowly profession, tending their flocks in a field outside of Bethlehem — where temple sheep were raised for sacrifice in Jerusalem — most likely around 2 b.c.

God chose to send his one and only son, “the Word made flesh,” the same Word that was with God at the creation of the world when Holy Spirit blew across the surface of the waters…as a lamb…so much symbolism…laid to rest in a manger with animals (as he was to be the lamb slain to take away the sins of the world), born in the same town where Temple sacrificial sheep were raised, and the physical acting out of Passover, the prophetic day mandated by God to be commemorated forever, where a lamb’s blood was brushed along the Jewish doorposts to save the people — a mandated Hebrew celebration.

Celebrate the first and only Noel with these worship songs to increase your joy at the promise given through Christ’s birth for redemption of all man, truly “…tidings of great joy which will be for ALL the people.”

-from Michael W. Smith’s Christmas album, 1989: “All is Well” and “Gloria”

-from David Crowder Band’s Oh for Joy, 2011: “The First Noel” and “Go, Tell It On the Mountain”

As my parents’ named me “Carol” at birth (a song of joy), I have been drawn to these songs o praise from a young age and listen to them year-round on my ITunes account — a reminder that now, because of God’s son born humbly, Messiah who came first as a suffering servant, and will come again as triumphant Lord, all is indeed — well.

Why is it that so many godly men in the Old Testament were followed by children that disobeyed the Lord?

The great prophet Samuel had two sons, Joel and Abijah.  “But they were not like their father. They were dishonest and accepted bribes to give unfair decisions.” (1 Sam. 8:3) Unfortunately, there are many other examples. As a mother, it grieves me that children raised in a godly home can turn from God and choose rebellion.

I think the reason lies in them viewing rituals connected to worship without ever realizing that God wants relationship with his people. The Bible describes him as the great potter, molding willing vessels to reflect his glory to a hungry world thirsting for salvation. But what if God’s people are rebellious broken vessels — full of pride, self-serving, lacking self control and belief?

Parents who demonstrate a godly fear of the Lord, that is recognizing His holiness and control of all world events both past and present — rightly and naturally fall into right relationship, where all they can do is marvel at His wondrous deeds and fall on their faces before him in worship. Offspring view their parent’s relationship one-dimensionally, as following a certain set of strict rules and regulations — that is — rituals to salvation while completely missing truth — that God desires our worship as an outward sign that we love him internally. His rules are meant to protect us and cherish us.

We willingly turn and follow him only through a relationship where we are his children, and He is a good father. This produces, in turn, fruits of the Holy Spirit such as love, faith, hope, joy and self-control. This amazing grace sets us free from all chains and lies binding us to worldly ties and is the one true path to joy, since “The joy of the Lord is my strength.”  (Nehemiah 8:10). You notice it doesn’t say parties, alcohol, drugs, wealth, self-serving, etc. is the way to joy. Think about it. Ponder. Are you in right relationship or serving dryly out of ritual…or are you not yet under the sheltering wings of the Lord Most High? Seek him today with all your heart while He may still be found.

Children cannot inherit the kingdom of God through their godly parents. Everyone must choose for themselves to come into agreement with the words of Nehemiah 9:6   “You alone are the Lord, Creator of the heavens and all the stars, Creator of the ocean and all its creatures. You are the source of life, praised by the stars that ill the heavens.” Only God is holy. Do you believe that? Keep a good hold on the reality that you are an undeserving sinner, only redeemable through God’s great mercy in sending his son, Jesus.

What if around the world great-grandparents, grand-parents, parents and their children all came into alignment with this statement by the Lord’s people in Nehemiah 9:32: “Our God, you are powerful, fearsome and faithful, always true to your word.” The unity of relationship with Almighty God would shine forth to the ends of the world.

“Can you understand the mysteries surrounding God All-Powerful?” asks Job’s friend in trying to help him understand his drastic change in circumstances. He then goes on, “They are higher than the heavens and deeper than the grave…these mysteries outreach the earth and the ocean.” (Job 11:7-9)    People have a tendency to see everything in self-centered, self-centric ways. It is difficult to look up from your circumstances and see that Jesus never stops walking next to you…encouraging you…in a world that trumpets the accomplishments of the godless and evil…  He is supernatural…transcending the laws of nature…full of amazing grace. Always with his ear inclined to hear the repentence of those in rebellion. Do you ever get tired of the fight? Of trying to make the world fit into your limited worldview? Do you ever wonder how to leave fear behind in a world dedicated to making you anxious and fearful?

Reach out in prayer…”Surrender your heart to God, turn to him in prayer, and give up your sins–even those you do in secret.” (Job 11:13-14).

What will you gain in return?   “Then you won’t be ashamed; you will be confident and fearless.” (Job 11:15) Life ends. God ceases to breathe his life-giving earthly atmosphere into you. You will travel to one of two places: 1) “…I travel to the land of darkness and despair, the place of no return.” (Job 10:21), or 2) “…we know that God raised the Lord Jesus to life. And just as God raised Jesus, he will also raise us to life. Then he will bring us into his presence together with you.” (2 Corinthians 4:13-14)

Long before the current religious cultures present in the Middle East, God himself lays claim to the Jewish people group and the physical location of Jerusalem. The Old Testament outlines God, himself, choosing Jesse’s youngest son, David to be His earthly kingdom’s king. He is directed to Jerusalem where he rules. His famous son, Solomon the wealthy and wise, also rules from Jerusalem. Next is order of succession is Rehoboam. 2 Chronicles 12:13 records for history that, “he ruled 17 years from Jerusalem, the city where the Lord had chosen to be worshiped. He is buried in Jerusalem, which now has a 3 generation family line going on, whereupon his son, Abijah, rules from Jerusalem for 3 years. 2 Chronicles 14:1 has him dying the being buried in Jerusalem, as his son Asa becomes king. Asa obeys the Lord, and the land has peace for 10 years. In the 41st year of his rule, he dies and is buried. (Earlier, Asa had his own tomb cut out of a rock hill in Jerusalem. So he was buried there… – 2 Chron. 16:14).

So, I am counting a 5 generation presence in Jerusalem just in these few chapters. Countless times throughout the Old Testament, which is God’s Holy Spirit-inspired word to his people in the world,  God claims this land and these people as his own. Read it for yourself. See if this is true.

In the Bible’s New Testament, It is no coincidence that God’s only son, Jesus, went many times to the 2nd temple in Jerusalem during his 33 years of earthly ministry on earth, and then gave up his life for the salvation of all people who believe, also in Jerusalem.

There is this theme of place and God’s timing woven throughout both Testaments. God even looks into our own future and gives this information to John the apostle, in exile, during the revealing of what is to come. “I saw New Jerusalem, that holy city, coming down from God in heaven…God’s home is now with his people. He will live with them, and they will be his own. Yes, God will make his home among his people…I did not see a temple there. The Lord God All powerful and the Lamb (Jesus) were its temple. And the city did not need the sun or the moon. The glory of God was shining on it, and the Lamb was its Light.” (Revelation 21:1: 2-3 and 22-23)

So, keep in mind that as you hear all the revisionist commentary from news outlets around the world that Israel has no right to its capital of Jerusalem, God has decreed otherwise, so you would be calling God a liar by falling into this lie of the enemy of truth.

Most people would agree that attributes such as patience, cheerfulness, hope, peacefulness and kindness are universally desirable. God declares in his scriptures that He is the giver of these beautiful characteristics:

God is the one who makes us patient and cheerful. I pray that he will help you live at peace with each other, as you follow Christ.” (Romans 15:5) What is more beautiful than a fruiting tree bursting with a bountiful harvest of colorful fruit? What is more beautiful than a child of God bursting with the fruit of Holy Spirit?

Here is the key. Following Christ Jesus will allow God to be the one who can deposit these positive attributes into your soul through his Holy Spirit.

So many strive on their own..willfully employing their own power…and then fail in the area of peace, hope and kindness. We are being bombarded with incidents of church and campus shootings and religious clashes in the Middle East. God is the bringer of peace, so conversely, without Him, there will be no peace. Humans are inherently arrogant and sure they can solve all this world’s problems politically, but God warns that without Him, our efforts will be puny and futile.

He also plainly states right before this chapter in Romans “And so, each one of us must give an account to God for what we do.” (Romans 14:12) Well, that’s sobering.” Each of us” includes everyone: rich, poor, humble, obscure…ALL of us. And how will we be judged? What is God’s criterion for a well-lived life? God (through Paul) explains: “God did not keep back his own Son, but he gave him for us. If God did this, won’t he freely give us everything else? …Christ died and was raised to  life, and now he is at God’s right side, speaking to him for us.” (Romans 8:32,34)

I don’t know about you, but when I pass from this life, through death’s doorway into eternity, I want the only acceptable intercessor, Jesus Christ, standing with me as I give account of my life to God.
